The Halloween Celebration

haunted houseThe average American today, when talking of Halloween, thinks of a children’s holiday where all the children get dressed up and go door to door asking for candy. The folks who answer the door usually have comments like, “Oh, what a cute superhero!” or “Ooh, what a scary ghost!” thinking all the while that there is nothing wrong with this yet another “American” holiday.

But do you know how Halloween got started? Let me give you a brief history. Halloween was started by the Celts, who celebrated their New Year on November 1st. A festival was held the evening before, October 31st, in honor of their Celtic lord of death, Samhaim. This marked the beginning of a season of cold, darkness, and decay; and later became associated with human death. The Celts believed their “lord of death” would allow dead souls to return to their earthly homes on this day. . . .

The Greatest Tragedy

THE GREATEST TRAGEDY, what could that be? Could it be the sinking of the Titanic? No, that is not it even though it was a great tragedy. How about World War I and then a few years later World War II? Certainly these were great tragedies with the loss of so many lives. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the American dropping of the atomic bomb on and Hiroshima brought untold destruction and death, and as bad as it was, it was not the greatest tragedy. The senseless murder of 6 million innocent Jews by the Hitler regime was a terrible tragedy, but it was not the greatest tragedy. Well, how about the terrorist attack by Islamic extremists on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center twin towers in New York? The unspeakable destruction and suffering caused by those agents of hell could not possibly be described, but it does not qualify as the greatest tragedy. So what then is the greatest tragedy one may ask? THE GREATEST TRAGEDY of all is for a person to pass into eternity without knowing Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. You see, you are an eternal soul created in the image of God, and as an eternal soul you will live forever. Your present body however, will not live forever – it is only a temporary dwelling to house your soul “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9: 27) Death is inevitable; it is a reality of life whether we like it or not. The only question that remains is where you, an eternal soul, will spend eternity. Will it be in God’s heaven with Jesus Christ the Saviour, or in Satan’s hell? . . .

The Gift Of Life

Did you know that there are thousands of people whose life is fleeting for want of an organ transplant? They wait, and wait, and wait, wondering if the gift of life they so desperately need will ever come, and will it come in time? One person may be suffering from kidney failure, while another needs a liver or other transplant. Someone dies in one state and his organs are donated – the recipient of this gift of life may live in the same state, or another state. With great urgency the desperately needed organ is transported to the recipient! The majority of the time the two people involved have never met, and yet through the death of one person, another gets a new lease on life. How grateful that person must be, but how does one thank the deceased donor? Even with a new lease on life the recipient will, however, eventually die as all humans must.

Are you aware that there are millions of people with a terminal condition, a condition that, with the proper treatment, can be cured? . . .

The Death Penalty

Some years ago the United States Supreme Court struck down the death penalty as unconstitutional. Many arguments by many people were used by the opponents and proponents for the death penalty. Those who argued for it did so using moral and Biblical points to support this position. The opponents used human reasoning, part of which was the claim that capital punishment is cruel and inhuman treatment, and that no offense warranted it. Since that time, states wishing to reinstate the death penalty have had an uphill battle. In some states the death penalty is again law, but only for certain crimes. When a criminal is convicted and sentenced to die, there are so-called public interest individuals and groups who do their best to have the death sentence overturned. The process is long and costly; our judicial system is weakened and the criminal exalted. The forces of Satan have done their job well in weakening the judicial system and the abolishing of the death penalty. In spite of Satanic efforts, there remains a judicial system and death penalty that cannot and will not be changed. Please allow me to explain. . . .

The Cross

the crossIN ancient times one of the most horrible methods of execution known to man was crucifixion on a cross. Victims were known to endure the agony of the cross for hours and in some cases, days, before dying. To die on a cross was a shame, for the Bible says, “…: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.” (Gal. 3:13b)

ALL crosses were instruments of death, but not all were the same. Of all the crosses, history records that one was destined to be different. Perhaps the carpenter who made it did not realize that this particular one would become famous – but God knew! It stood on a hill, outside of the city; a place away from the populace, a place of death. It had been borne there by a man under orders from the Roman army, a man who was just passing through.

THE “criminal” was brought to the cross and had his hands and feet nailed to it by . . .

The Appointment

Have you ever had an appointment for something? Sure you have! All of us at one time or another has had an appointment; we may have made the appointment our self or another person made it for us. THE APPOINTMENT! It may have been for a job interview, medical reason, family reunion, business meeting, social engagement, a court ordered date, etc. Some appointments we look forward to, such as a date, family reunion, or retirement, but then there are other appointments we dread and at times try to avoid. THE APPOINTMENT is made, but then for whatever reason it may be cancelled or rescheduled for another time. Most, not all but most appointments we have some control over, even to the extent of determining if we will honor it by keeping it. Agreed!?  I thought so! Did you know that you have an appointment that you will keep? You cannot change it, you cannot cancel it, and you cannot postpone it? Like it or not, you will keep THE APPOINTMENT! And what that appointment might be, you may ask. Please, allow me to briefly explain. . . .

Thank You Gospel Tract

When people go out to eat they usually leave a tip on the table for the man or woman who waited on them. PFBP has a tract designed for this purpose, only this tract may be a little different than others like it.

This “Thank You” tract is designed for using a second tract with it. The tract that I use is the PFBP tract “God’s Plan For Salvation”. The tract is a standard 4-page tract (folded once) and it gives a clear plan of God’s salvation. The tip that is left for the server is placed inside the Gospel tract which in turn is placed inside of the Thank You tract. When you stop and think about it, this is really quite practical.

Gospel Tract Excerpt:
thank you tipsTip #1

This tip is a token of my appreciation for your service. I know it’s not much, but I do hope you will accept it in the spirit for which it is meant.

Tip #2

May I offer you a second tip? This one is worth more than money, and it has eternal rewards. Here is the tip!

If you have never trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, you need to, today, before it becomes eternally too late. I’ve enclosed a Gospel tract that explains salvation, and why you need to be saved. Will you please take time to read it, and give serious consideration to the state of your eternal soul? It’s my prayer that you will. (John 3:16-18)

Tell It To The Judge

judgeLaws, laws, and more laws! Everywhere we turn there are laws governing one thing or another. Granted, some laws seem pointless, but most are good and they serve a useful purpose. Take for example a traffic light. These exist for the orderly flow of traffic, but not everyone wants to obey them. People, for whatever reason, run red lights and when the police catch them, they have an excuse for why they ran the red light. But the policeman doing his job just replies, “Tell it to the judge.” Or the person caught exceeding the speed limit, “But officer, I was …” Again, the officer just says,”Tell it to the judge.” The law was established, but it was broken. Was that the fault of the officer? No, it was not. His job was to enforce the law. So, whose fault was it that the law was broken? It was the fault of the one who broke it. He did so with no regard to the consequence, so, “Tell it to the judge.” As someone has said, “Do the crime, do the time.” Or to phrase it another way, “Do the crime, pay the fine.” You don’t agree? Tell it to the judge! . . .

Stop, Look & Listen

STOP … just for a moment to consider your eternal destiny. Man will not live forever, for God’s Word, the Bible, tells us that “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die…” (Ec. 3:1,2a). Every human ever created will spend eternity in one of two places – Heaven or Hell. Speaking of those who repent of sin and by faith alone in the shed blood of Jesus Christ receive Him as personal Saviour, the Bible says “…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Co. 5:8) Concerning those who have not received Christ as Saviour we read, “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…” (Luke 16:23a) “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev. 20:15)

LOOK … at what the Bible says about the sinful condition of man. Man is a sinner by birth and in deed, having inherited the sinful nature from Adam (Ro. 5:12), and therefore is not good or capable of doing good in or of himself (Ro. 3:10-12). The natural conduct of man is to do that which is evil, i.e., murder, lying, fornication, adultery, stealing, witchcraft, drunkenness, strife, and much more (Ro. 3:13-19;, Gal. 5:19-21).

LISTEN … to the Holy Spirit of God as He speaks to your heart, . . .

Scriptural Baptism

baptismThe word “baptize” comes from the Greek word “bapto” which means “to whelm, i.e. cover wholly with a fluid.”  Baptism properly defined means to be completely submerged, as in being totally covered. In Christianity when we say that a person has been “baptized”, we are saying that, that person has been completely immersed in water. We call this a “believer’s baptism.” Such baptism may have taken place in a church baptistry, a lake, pond, river, or a swimming pool, but it was ALWAYS a complete immersion. A complete immersion is the only type taught in the Word of God, thus making invalid all other forms of so-called baptisms. To be “baptized” by sprinkling is of man and not of God; to claim otherwise is to claim an authority higher than God’s Word; such an authority has its origin in Satan himself for there is NO AUTHORITY higher than God’s Word.

A person may have been baptized in the scriptural manner, but that does not mean that he or she was a scriptural candidate for baptism. So then, let’s take a brief, closer look at scriptural baptism as taught by the Word of God. . . .
