The Con Artist
A con artist is someone who tricks others to get something from them, usually money. The con artist is also called a con man, a master of what he does, he is “a man who cheats or tricks someone by gaining their trust and persuading them to believe something that is not true.” Perhaps you did not know or think about but, the devil is THE master of con; he has been conning people as back as the Garden of Eden when he conned Eve into believing his lie. God had given Adam permission to eat from every tree in the Garden except one. “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” {Genesis 2:16-17} “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” {Genesis 3:1} The devil conned Eve into believing she would not die if she ate fruit from that tree. The devil is a master at what he does and, despite the warnings from God, people continue to believe him.
The world is full of religions, religions that are contrary to God’s Word, the Bible. “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” {2 Corinthians 13:14} An old-time preacher said of the latter verse, “For even Satan himself, though he be indeed an unclean spirit of darkness; yet, to deceive men the better, doth oft times put himself into the form of a glorious, heavenly, lightsome angel.” {Jospeh Hall 1574-1656} The con artist practices his trade by deception, and he is so good at it that he can make it appear good, healthy, beneficial, without penalty, etc. The fact of the matter is the con artist could not care less about those he deceives; he only wants what he can get for himself.
