Time & Eternity

“What’s the hurry? I have plenty of time,” someone may say. Alas though, as he lingers, timecontinues to march on, at a snail’s pace, but nonetheless, continuing onward. Time – though not seen, still it exists; though not heard, yet its presence is felt, for all experience it. Timemay be measured by clocks and calendars, but it cannot be harnessed nor restrained. Though the clocks may be stopped, the seconds continue to pass by, unimpeded. As time advances onward, its course never changing, eternity awaits its arrival. Eternity – it has no beginning or end, for it is infinite. In the eternal state, time has no meaning, for it ceases to exist – it is consumed by eternity. Sooner or later for all of mortal mankind, time runs out as eternity beckons. No matter what the status of an individual’s life, time and eternity wait for no man! . . .

The Cross

the crossIN ancient times one of the most horrible methods of execution known to man was crucifixion on a cross. Victims were known to endure the agony of the cross for hours and in some cases, days, before dying. To die on a cross was a shame, for the Bible says, “…: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.” (Gal. 3:13b)

ALL crosses were instruments of death, but not all were the same. Of all the crosses, history records that one was destined to be different. Perhaps the carpenter who made it did not realize that this particular one would become famous – but God knew! It stood on a hill, outside of the city; a place away from the populace, a place of death. It had been borne there by a man under orders from the Roman army, a man who was just passing through.

THE “criminal” was brought to the cross and had his hands and feet nailed to it by . . .

Romans Road

The Romans Road is an old road; construction on it was begun about six thousand years ago. Approximately two thousand years ago it was completed. Yes, the Romans Road is an old road, and it’s a famous one, too. Since construction on this road began, people from all walks of life have been traveling it. No, not everyone has traveled the whole length of it. Some of those who began the trip died on the way (accidents, war, suicide, illnesses, etc.), others were enticed to use another road, and still others didn’t care about the trip. However, there have been a few who went all the way, and were ever so glad they did. Perhaps you haven’t realized it, but you are on the Romans Road this very moment. You say that you have never heard of this famous road! Well, then, please allow me to lead you down it.

The Romans Road may be found in the book of Romans, which is the sixth book of the New Testament in God’s Holy Word, the Bible. At the beginning of the Romans Road, chapter three, verse ten we read that, “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” This is the natural state of man: lost and not seeking after God.

Further down the road we find the reason for this. . . .

Real Peace In A Troubled World

The Berlin wall has come down, and the Communist barbed wire and guard posts are gone. We are told that Communism is dead, and that those countries and people once under Communist rule are now free. We’re told that the world is at peace, so they say. The truth of the matter is that the world is NOT at peace. In 1994 American armed forces were sent to Haiti. In Rwanda Hutu and Tutu slaughtered each other. In Bosnia the country is destroyed by ethnic fighting. Iraq rattles its war sabers while Israelis are being shot at by their foes and murdered by homicide bombers. And so the list grows and goes. Thepresident of the United States sends forth his Secretary of State of negotiate peace while dispatching the military to enforce it. The fact is, world peace just does not exist – it cannot in a world so ravaged by sin! It’s no wonder that individual people and whole nations are in constant turmoil. But don’t despair, friend, for peace, that quietness and rest, is possible in this present world of chaos. . . .

Members Only

members only“Discrimination! I’m being discriminated against!” More and more we are hearing this cry, or one similar to it. Boys want to be allowed to play on an all-girl team, and girls insist on being accepted on an otherwise all-male team. Organizations and clubs that were traditionally all-male have been ordered by the courts to accept women into their ranks. More and more exclusion from clubs, organizations, sports teams, the work place, etc., because of race, religion, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation is being viewed as not” politically correct.” Refusal to rent a dwelling to a homosexual or lesbian, or to give employment to one is viewed as illegal and discriminatory. Churches have even been known to be sued because they discriminated and refused to hire someone whose lifestyle was contrary to beliefs of the respective church. Those who refuse to yield to the advancement of the new “politically correct” way of thinking are threatened with court action. The time is coming and, yea, now is upon us that all those who would live Godly in this present evil world can expect, and will receive persecution from all quarters of life. However, come what may, there is one area of discrimination that society, government, and the judicial system cannot, and will not change. They can pass and enforce all the laws they want, but they can’t change it! They can threaten all they want, but it will not do any good. They are without any power whatsoever to change it! And what may that be? WHO GOES TO HEAVEN! . . .

Look & Live

look and liveIf you received a deadly snake bite, what would you do, submit to the prescribed treatment or question and doubt it? Would you first have to have all of your medical questions answered about the treatment? Would you rely on your own ability to provide the needed cure? Or would you do what common sense tells you to do, realize that you are in a serious condition and about to die, and without further delay accept the offered cure for what it is, the only remedy, your only hope. . . .

Hey Teenager!

teenager with boom boxWait a minute! I know that you are in a hurry to go somewhere, but could you slow down long enough to give me about three minutes of your time? Teenagers seem to be so busy much of the time – always in a hurry to go somewhere or do something, and that’s what I’d like to talk to you about, just for a moment.

Perhaps you are not aware of it, but as you hurry to go somewhere in life, there are those who, under the disguise of “friend”, would seek to lead you astray. You may say, “Come on, mister, my ‘friends’ would never do that to me.” But…all too often it does happen. In fact, the Bible tells of one such case. In 2 Samuel 13:3-5 we read where Amnon, one of the sons of King David had a “friend” named Jonadab who gave some bad advise to Amnon. Amnon had a half-sister named Tamar, and he desired to have a sexual relation with her. Jonadab, the “friend”, gave a suggestion on how to arrange it. In the end we find Tamar disgraced and Amnon dead as a result.

As a teenager undoubtedly you have many friends, . . .

Death Unexpected

IN a song titled, “Death Unexpected,” the song writer wrote these words,  “…death unexpected, I surely was surprised, …” Death unexpected, it happens when one least expects it! A new-born child is put in its crib for a nap, never to awaken again. A young child playing in a street is struck by a moving vehicle or a stray bullet from a street gang fight. A teenager overdoses on drugs, or dies in an automobile accident while out “joy riding” with some friends. A policeman or firefighter is killed in the line of duty, a construction worker on the job, or someone sitting in the quietness of their home – death unexpected! A terrorist’s bomb, or just a heart attack -death unexpected! You name it, it happens all the time – death unexpected! It happens without warning often when one is in the prime of life and the future, humanly speaking, looks bright, but there it is – death unexpected! Unannounced, unwanted, unprohibited! Standing as a monument to the grim reminder of death is the graveyard, a perpetual testimony to the mortality of mankind. Death unexpected, no respecter of person regardless of wealth, fame, education, societal influence, etc. When death unexpected comes calling, all must answer and yield.

Death unexpected, we cannot prevent it from happening, but we can be prepared for it when it does. How? By trusting Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. Those who have repented of sin and received Christ as Saviour are prepared for physical death, for they know they are forgiven and saved, and at death though the body is placed in the ground, their eternal soul will forever be with God in Heaven (2 Co. 5:6-8). For the Christian, death is not to be feared, for it has no hold – it is a vanquished foe (1 Co. 15:53-55). How can this be?. . .
