THE GREATEST TRAGEDY, what could that be? Could it be the sinking of the Titanic? No, that is not it even though it was a great tragedy. How about World War I and then a few years later World War II? Certainly these were great tragedies with the loss of so many lives. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the American dropping of the atomic bomb on and Hiroshima brought untold destruction and death, and as bad as it was, it was not the greatest tragedy. The senseless murder of 6 million innocent Jews by the Hitler regime was a terrible tragedy, but it was not the greatest tragedy. Well, how about the terrorist attack by Islamic extremists on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center twin towers in New York? The unspeakable destruction and suffering caused by those agents of hell could not possibly be described, but it does not qualify as the greatest tragedy. So what then is the greatest tragedy one may ask? THE GREATEST TRAGEDY of all is for a person to pass into eternity without knowing Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. You see, you are an eternal soul created in the image of God, and as an eternal soul you will live forever. Your present body however, will not live forever – it is only a temporary dwelling to house your soul "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews 9: 27) Death is inevitable; it is a reality of life whether we like it or not. The only question that remains is where you, an eternal soul, will spend eternity. Will it be in God’s heaven with Jesus Christ the Saviour, or in Satan’s hell?

Jesus Christ has already paid in full your sin debt by the shedding of His blood and death on the Cross of Calvary because of His great love for you (John 3:16; Romans 5:9; I Peter 1: 18, 19). Jesus Christ not only paid your sin debt once and for all, but at this very moment He is in Heaven at the right hand of God the Father, "…: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." (Hebrews 9:26). "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God." (Hebrews 10:12) All that remains to be done now is for you to repent of your sin (to take God’s side against your sin) and by faith alone in Jesus Christ receive Him as your personal Saviour. If you do this, God has promised you that you will be saved for all eternity, "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (1 John 5: 11 – 13)

The penalty for not receiving Jesus Christ as personal Saviour is that at this very moment all are under God’s condemnation, for the Bible says, "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3: 18; 36) and, should they die in that condition, they will spend eternity in the Devils hell (Revelation 20: 10; 15; 21:8). This is certainly not God’s desire, but He has done all He can do for you by providing for your salvation, but now it’s up to you, "…, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (2 Pe. 3:9). THE GREATEST TRAGEDY of all would be for you to die and go into eternity without knowing Jesus Christ as personal Saviour, and this by an act of your own will and unbelief.

Now my friend, whoever you are, wherever you are, will you now repent of your sin and by faith alone in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, receive Him as you personal Saviour? He will forgive you and save you if you will but call upon Him. Do it today, do it now lest it become eternally too late and you become a part of THE GREATEST TRAGEDY!
