REAL PEACE

IN A TROUBLED WORLD

The Berlin wall has come down, and the Communist barbed wire and guard posts are gone. We are told that Communism is dead, and that those countries and people once under Communist rule are now free. We’re told that the world is at peace, so they say. The truth of the matter is that the world is NOT at peace. In 1994 American armed forces were sent to Haiti. In Rwanda Hutus and Tutus slaughtered each other. In Bosnia the country is destroyed by ethnic fighting. Iraq rattles its war sabers while Israelis are being shot at by their foes and murdered by homicide bombers. And so the list grows and goes. The president of the United States sends forth his Secretary of State of negotiate peace while dispatching the military to enforce it. The fact is, world peace just does not exist - it cannot in a world so ravaged by sin! It’s no wonder that individual people and whole nations are in constant turmoil. But don’t despair, friend, for peace, that quietness and rest, is possible in this present world of chaos. This peace comes from the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. We read in God’s Word, the Bible, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (Jn. 14:27) True peace, peace of mind, and peace of heart is a supernatural act of God in the life of the one who has trusted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world." (Jn. 16:33) This true peace, peace of mind, and peace of heart is made possible when people trust Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. This is what makes the difference. In this world of turmoil and uncertainty, do you have the peace that passes all understanding? You can have it! Here’s how. First, you need to realize that you are a sinner (Ro. 5:12) standing in need of salvation. This means to trust Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. Everyone who dies without Christ goes to hell for all eternity (Jn. 3:18; Rev. 20:15). Those who trust Him as Saviour have the forgiveness of sins (Ro. 10:13) and eternal life for eternity in Heaven (Jn. 3:16). To have the forgiveness of sins you must repent of your sins (Acts 17:30) and by faith alone (Eph. 2:8) in the shed blood of Jesus Christ (Ro. 5:9) receive His as personal Saviour. Jesus Christ, as God, loves you, He shed His blood and died for you, and He bodily rose again for you. If you will admit to God that you are a sinner for whom Christ died, and receive Him as Saviour, then the Bible promises that you will be forgiven and saved for all eternity, "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (I Jn. 5:11,13). Once a person receives Jesus Christ as Saviour, he then has the responsibility to live in such a manner as to bring honour and glory to the risen Saviour (I Co. 6:19-20). That’s why it’s important for Christians to regularly attend an independent, fundamental, Bible-believing and Bible-preaching church - that they may consistently sit under the ministry of God’s Word and grow spiritually. He lives for you and wants to save you today - right now! If you’ll receive Him as your personal Saviour, you too will have the forgiveness of sins and eternal life - and the peace that passes all understanding. Peace in this present world today? Yes, it is possible, but only in Jesus Christ!
